What getmail.ca holds, why it holds it, and how long it stays.
In effect 10 September 2026.
Who operates the service
getmail.ca is operated by 2510138 Alberta Inc., carrying on business as Byte Crunch, in Alberta, Canada. Questions about this policy go to support@getmail.ca.
What we hold
- Account details: the name of the account holder, the address on getmail.ca, and a contact address we can reach you at.
- Your mail: messages, attachments, calendar entries and contacts are stored so the service can deliver and show them to you.
- Operating records: connection times, sending and delivery records, and the network addresses that connect to the service. These are what let us deliver mail, stop abuse and answer the question "did that message arrive".
What we never do
- We do not read your mail to build a profile of you.
- We do not sell, rent or trade your information, and there is no advertising in the service.
- We do not use the contents of your mailbox for any purpose other than running the service you are paying us to run.
Incoming mail is checked automatically for spam and viruses. That check is done by software, not by a person.
Where it is kept, and for how long
Mail and account data are held on servers located in Canada. Your mail stays until you delete it or the account is closed. Nightly backups are kept for seven days and then overwritten. Operating records are rotated routinely and kept only as long as they are useful for delivery and security.
When an account closes, its mail is deleted after any retention period agreed with the account holder, and it disappears from backups within seven days after that.
Who else is involved
We use a small number of suppliers to run the service: a company that hosts the servers in Canada, and a delivery provider that carries outgoing mail. They handle mail only as needed to pass it along, and they are not permitted to use it for anything else.
We disclose mail or account information to anyone else only where the law requires it, and we tell the account holder unless we are forbidden to.
Your choices
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for a correction, take a full copy of your mail over IMAP at any time, or ask us to close the account and delete it. Write to support@getmail.ca and we will answer within thirty days.
If you ever want us to stop writing to you, tell us and we stop. The address is put on a permanent do-not-contact list.
Security
Connections to the service are encrypted, mail is signed so recipients can confirm it really came from us, and every mailbox can require a one-time code in addition to its password. Administrative access is limited to the people who run the service and is protected by two-factor authentication.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so on this page and, for anything significant, write to account holders.
